Repeal PA4 Petitioner Tip Sheet

REMEMBER ONLY REGISTERED VOTERS IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN CAN SIGN AND/OR CIRCULATE PETITIONS

  • Each petition can only accept signatures from voters who are registered in that petitions COUNTY. EXAMPLE: If the petition is for Wayne County (the circulator has written “Wayne” at the top), only those who are registered to vote in Wayne County can sign that petition.
  • Voters may only sign the petition once, circulators may sign their own petition, however again only once.
  • The first space for signers to designate their CITY or TOWNSHIP they are registered to vote is important. EXAMPLE: On a Wayne County Petition, a signer may check the city box and write “Dearborn”. The next line, signer may check the township box and write “Redford”.
  • Signature dates must be in sequential order. EXAMPLE: If John D. Smith signs 12/1/11, the following petition signature should be 12/1/11 a date following (for example 12/2/11 NOT 11/31/11).
  • Petition circulators should not sign the bottom right of the petition until they are ready to turn them in for verification.
  • After collecting signatures and signing at the bottom right of the petition, the circulator can mail or deliver the REPEAL PETITION to Michigan Forward, 600 W. Lafayette, Suite 100 Detroit Michigan 48226 or anyone of the petition sites listed at michiganforward.org.
  • Petitions must be turned in within ten (10) days of receiving them.
