The campaign to repeal Michigan’s Emergency Manager Law was built on simultaneously working in multiple locations across the state through grassroots coordination and communication. This formula served us well through the early stages of the Stand Up for Democracy campaign. To close the petition phase of our efforts, Michigan Forward is calling on business, labor and community allies to join in a statewide collection effort.
Lately the focus of Michigan’s Emergency Manager Law has been on Detroit. However, this is a Michigan issue; the blatant violation of due process, voting rights and contracts in the name of a fiscal emergency is a radical attempt to dismantle Democracy.
How will we do this?
We are asking the labor, faith, business and community organizations to open their doors of business to our campaign. By opening your doors, you agree to recruit or allow Stand Up for Democracy volunteers to collect signatures to repeal Michigan’s Public Act 4 at your location on a designated Democracy Day (Saturdays from 10am – 4pm), Signature Sunday (faith-based organizations contact Betty Smith directly at 313.964.1711) or if you want to host repeal petitions on a longer term basis. Michigan’s Emergency Manager Law, is an economy killing, radical attempt to disenfranchise voters and dissolve Democracy in our state’s core communities. Supporting our campaign by opening your doors helps us secure voting rights and due process for all Michigan residents. Michigan Forward and allies will coordinate volunteer schedules and venues.
Register your venue as a petition site to Repeal Michigan’s Emergency Manager Law!
